The Ferrari 575M Maranello was launched in 2002 and was an update of the 550 Maranello, it featured minor styling changes from Pininfarina along with a renewed interior, bigger brake discs, a larger and more powerful engine, revised weight distribution, refined aerodynamics and fluid-dynamics and an adaptive suspension set-up.
Two six-speed transmissions were available, a conventional manual gearbox and, for the first time on a Ferrari V12, Magneti Marelli's semi-automatic 'F1' gearbox. The model number refers to total engine displacement in litres of 5.75, whilst the 'M' is an abbreviation of modificato, meaning modified.
Ferrari produced a total volume of 2,056 575M's worldwide, the majority of which featured F1 transmission, being something new and previously unseen on a 12 Cylinder Ferrari.
The UK delivered a total of 170 vehicles of which 122 were fitted with the F1 gearbox.
